What are you doing in the holidays?

  • hanging out with friends?
  • having a holiday with  your family?
  • visiting rellies somewhere?
  • going to OHSC at your school or another school because mum, dad, or whoever cares for you  has to work?
  • playing computer games, reading, relaxing and staying in bed each morning?

The best thing about the holidays is that you can do lots of different things. It is a time to relax, have fun and practise skills you want to improve.

If you do the same thing every day, even if it is pretty exciting, there comes a time when you’ve had enough. Try to fit lots of different things into your day and you will be amazed at what you can achieve.

Make a plan to see friends, go on walks, play games, go to the movies, read, practise skills like throwing, kicking, catching, riding, running etc. so that you feel as if you really have had a good break from school.

Maybe you could enrol in a sports clinic, improve your swimming or use the vouchers in the local paper and try out ice skating, ten pin bowling etc.

You could get a group of friends together and talk someone’s mum or dad into taking you!

You don’t need to spend money.

Check out what’s happening at your local library during the school holidays. You can learn how to do all sorts of things from books e.g. learn how to draw or paint, how to do different crafts, you might borrow a talking book or start learning another language!

Sitting in front of tv or a game all day, especially if you are snacking all the time, gets boring and is not good for your body, which really likes exercise, fresh air and doing different things.

So make the most of your break from school. Get active, get outside, have a great holiday and don’t forget to Slip, slop, slap, seek and slide.!!
