Why aren’t other boys fat?
01 Dec 2014
This was the question which was sent to us. It isn’t a question we can answer directly, although we feel sad that this boy is so unhappy.
Many young people seem to put on weight before they have a growth spurt.
Some kids grow faster than others and seem to look like young adults when they reach their teen years.
Some kids may not have a true image of themselves because there is so much emphasis on how you should look nowadays.
Maybe someone is being very unkind to this young person?
Maybe he has a medical problem?
There are many topics on this site about puberty and the body changes which happen at that time in a young person’s life. There are many other topics about diet, healthy food, weight, exercise and fitness. At the bottom of each topic you will see the following.
We've provided this information to help you to understand important things about staying healthy and happy. However, if you feel sick or unhappy, it is important to tell your mum or dad, a teacher or another grown-up.
If any of you have worries like this young person, then please talk to mum, dad or whoever cares for you. Ask if they will take you to see your doctor if you are still worried. He or she will be able to help.
We are all different and unique. We should respect and accept each other’s differences whatever they may be. We may look different on the outside but inside we all have feelings and we all need to feel good about ourselves.
